About the Business
Southern Kitchen has been a Tacoma culinary landmark for over thirty years under the stewardship of owner Gloria Martin. Nationally featured on the Food Network, Southern Kitchen prepares scratch Southern breakfasts, griddle cakes, and smothered pork chops that taste just like Sunday dinner at grandmother’s table.
Located on 6th Avenue in Tacoma, Southern Kitchen is a foundational community hearth for South Sound civic leaders and the historic Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Supporting the international theme “Building Our Economic Wealth,” the diner anchors local wealth retention and honors sisterhood patrons with dedicated perks.
Famous for crispy fried chicken, hushpuppies, slow-cooked collard greens, catfish fillets, and legendary homemade sweet potato pie, Southern Kitchen is an essential Tacoma stop for June Black Dollar Days. Guests are warmly invited to enjoy a home-cooked meal on 6th Avenue.
