About the Business
The Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle (ULMS) has stood as a monumental civil rights and economic equity institution for nearly a century. Under the visionary leadership of President & CEO Michelle Merriweather—recipient of the 2026 National Urban League Women of Power Award—ULMS empowers African Americans and underserved communities through financial literacy, housing stability, and entrepreneurship.
Directly embodying the spirit of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.’s international focus on “Building Our Economic Wealth,” ULMS is an indispensable cornerstone for Black family stability in the Central District. The organization coordinates closely with Divine Nine chapters on economic literacy workshops and extends prioritized Sisterhood Advantage educational resources.
Providing homeownership counseling, Black small business advisory services, adult education scholarships, and career advancement programs, ULMS is an institutional beacon during Seattle’s June Black Dollar Days. Community members are encouraged to visit the 14th Avenue headquarters or register for free economic empowerment programs online.
