Rainier Valley Midwives & Birth Collective

Rainier Valley Midwives (RVM) was co-founded by Executive Director Tara Lawal and Clinical Director Jodilyn Owen to dismantle systemic disparities in maternal healthcare. By pioneering a non-profit, licensed community midwifery clinic and birth collective, RVM delivers respectful, evidence-based, culturally rooted prenatal, home birth, and postpartum care.

Operating in South Seattle, Rainier Valley Midwives represents life-saving community healthcare. In close fellowship with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.’s international directive, “Building Our Economic Wealth,” and healthcare equity advocacy, RVM partners with Divine Nine chapters to train Black birth workers, extending a dedicated Sisterhood Advantage care kit to mothers.

Providing comprehensive prenatal visits, community birth center births, home birth midwifery, postpartum lactation consultations, and doula training fellowships, RVM is a treasured community institution during June Black Dollar Days. Expectant families are invited to contact the clinic for intake consultations.
